BEC Inaugurates Skills Development Program

Berendina Employment Centre (BEC) in collaboration with World Vision (WV) recently held a ceremony to inaugurate the Professional Skills Development Program in Batticaloa District. According to this project, a three-month full time Diploma course in English and Life skills with ICTT will be facilitated and conducted by the implementing partner, People Helping People Foundation (PHPF) for over 100 youth participants. Those eligible to pursue the course will be youth with an age limit of 17 – 25, who have qualified in their O/Ls and or completed A/Ls. BEC and WV will be the funding collaborators of the program which will be conducted in Kiran in Batticaloa. The inauguration ceremony of the course was held at the PHPF Training Centre in Batticaloa on Tuesday 14th of March 2017 with the patronage of District Manager of BEC in Batticaloa, Mr. Thinesh. The event was also attended by Member of Parliament in the Batticaloa District - Mr. S. Vijalendran, Volunteer teacher from Germany - Ms. Jodith, Project Coordinator World Vision in Kiran - Mr. Jeyakumar, Youth service officers in the Kiran division and other invitees. The youth who took part in the event were residents in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Vaalichchenai and Kiran in Batticaloa District. The objective of the program is to develop effective communication skills (spoken and written) and presentation skills of the participating youth. The goal is to produce self-confident individuals who would master inter-personal skills, team management skills, and leadership skills. It will also assist them in developing broad career plans, evaluating the employment market, identifying the organizations to gain betters placements and match the job requirements with the skill sets.
