Berendina partners with the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute to train 35 rural youth in hotel management

The Berendina Employment Center (BEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on the 3rd of June to support 35 rural youth from the Kegalle, Matara, Galle, Anuradhapura Nuwara Eliya and Puttalam districts in obtaining the professional certificate on craft-level Hotel Management conducted by SLFI. The MoU was signed between Mr. Dulan De Silva, Chairman of the Berendina Group and Prof. Ranjith Bandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute at the SLFI auditorium. Also present at the MoU signing was, Mr. Hemantha Harischandra, General Manager, Berendina Employment Center, Mr Samantha Rathnayaka - Consultant to SLFI and Mr Baratha Herath, the course coordinator and senior lecturer for the craft-level hotel management course. Under the partnership, BEC will select 35 youth from Samurdhi recipient families in the above mentioned districts and provide the SLFI a total of Rs 630,000 to conduct the course for these youth. The per student cost for this 10 day residential program will be Rs. 18,000 and a student will only pay Rs.3000 for registration with the course The SLFI with also assist with industry placement for these youth upon completion of their training. The SLFI is offering this course at a very special discounted rate of Rs. 18,000 under the partnership with BEC to assist these underprivileged youth. Berendina has provided over 6000 vocational training scholarships to youth from samurdhi families and also linked over 13,500 youth with employment in over 400 companies.
